𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐘 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐋 𝐎𝐅 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎!!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You guys...I can't believe that this little lady is 3 months old. 𝘖𝘩, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯. So far, she has learned to hold her own bottle, sleep through the night, and has stolen our hearts.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In 3 months, we have mastered overnight diaper changes, morning snuggles, and baby swaddles while being sleep deprived yet grateful. What we completely bombed was our plan to pay for our week-long hospital stay when she was born.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We received a series of bills in November that totaled over $40,000.00, not including insurance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 𝘔𝘺 𝘫𝘢𝘸 𝘩𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳, especially because we had to wait to see the final bill after insurance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After another few weeks, we received a final bill with over 90% of it covered from insurance. THANK YOU, GOD! With very little left on our FSA card, we decided to schedule a payment after the new year so that we can use our new FSA cards with replenished funds. 𝐁𝐈𝐆 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While this is probably a DUH MOMENT for most of you reading this, I had not considered that we wouldn't be allowed to pay for a 2019 medical expense on a 2020 FSA card. [le sigh] Thank goodness that we had a #sinkingfund for something else that we could borrow from. I would much rather borrow from myself than credit. ARE $2 BILLS WORTH MORE? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a general rule of thumb, if a $2 bill has a RED Treasury seal and serial numbers, it’s at least a somewhat-valuable collectible. CONFESSION TIME: WE PAID OFF $11,040.05 OF DEBT BUT WE SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I started 2019 laser-focused on saving money and paying down our last debt of @DaveRamsey's #babystep2 when BOOM...we found out we were pregnant. Without even realizing it, I would miss a check-in for the #SMCmoneychallenge or forget what #sinkingfund I was saving for (pregnancy brain is definitely a real thing). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I gave ALL OF MY FOCUS to staying healthy and preparing for our baby girl and very little time invested, when compared to previous years, to winning at my #moneygoals. I indulged some of my #spendingtriggers and found new ones (hello, cute baby stuff👼🏽). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With that said, we still were able to pay off over $11,000 of debt due to the #bettermoneyhabits that have been ingrained into our lifestyle and required no additional brain cells to be successful. HEY, I'M NOT PERFECT AND SETBACKS HAPPEN. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of the best things about a setback is the lessons you learn from them. In 2020, I will complete the SMC Money Challenge because I can only imagine how much more we would have been able to pay off had I completed the challenge. All of my money goals will be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely (also known as S.M.A.R.T. goals).
