Foursquare Isn’t Just For Squares
So we’re all well aware at this point that social media and apps are practically every day staples. You can’t even really buy a phone today without getting a smart phone or data plan. With that said, sometimes the number of useless applications available to download can start to get annoying and redundant. There is something, however, about saving money that just never gets old. Allow me to introduce you to an app that saved me some cash!
The other day my oil change notification popped up in my 2011 Ford Fiesta. Being the responsible (and paranoid) driver that I am, I immediately headed to my local Ford dealership to see exactly what the deal was. While I was waiting for them to finish up on the car, I honestly got bored, so I logged in to Four Square to check-in and see if there were any specials.
Foursquare is an application set up like a game, in which you can “check-in” to different places and opt to notify your friends that you are there. Sure, some may think this is a little creepy, but you must be strategic. You can choose who you let know where you are (i.e. your friends), and it is wiser to choose major locations to check into. You know, public places. (Not your house). So anyway, you log in and the more you check in places, your rank grows. You can even become the mayor of a location!
After I check in at the dealership, I also hit the “specials” button. The specials button gives you the opportunity to see if the location where you currently are has any deals or discounted rates. Sure enough, Ford had an oil change special for 17.99 AND it included a free tire rotation. There’s absolutely nothing annoying about that, I tell ya. Nothing.
